Everything was just as you imagined it would be when baby arrived. Tiny socks, onesies and bibs abounded. Then, in a blink of an eye, your baby grew out of one size, then the next, and the next. It costs a lot for the clothing that baby only used for a short spell. If you’re planning on adding to your family, it doesn’t make sense to get rid of these essentials. Store them for your next baby. Here are some tips on how to store baby clothes for future use.

Be sure to have tight sealing containers. If you’ll be stacking boxes, double check if the lids will bow from the weight of boxes stacked on top. If they do, this will allow dust and bugs to enter the box which could be detrimental to the clothing inside. If you must use cardboard boxes, it might be worth your while to get some XL ziplock bags or even those bags that you vacuum the air out of, just as extra insurance so that when you want an article of clothing, it will be in pristine condition.

Wash, treat stains with spot remover and thoroughly dry all clothing.

Categorize, categorize, categorize.
Sort all of your clothes into groups that make sense for you. A good starting point is to separate girls and boys clothes. Then sort each of those into age categories such as 0-9 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, etc.
Miscellaneous clothing items can be sorted together. Things like hats, shoes, gloves, accessories and specialty items like Halloween costumes or holiday outfits can all go in the same container. Keeping these items separate from the age assortments will allow you to find them more easily.

Label, label, label.
You cannot be too specific when it comes to this stage. Your future self will appreciate the effort you put in now. Finding a summer dress in a box merely labeled Girl 0-9 months is much easier when there are clearly labeled bags inside that detail the exact contents.

Pack everything into the boxes and move the boxes into your Lock Up climate controlled storage unit. This way you’ll know exactly where everything is and that it is in the most secure and most protected environment possible. Your next baby will have a whole wardrobe of gently used items and you’ll have extra cash for all those extra costs along the way.

Do you have any extra suggestions for storing baby clothes?
